Alternative Ways To Get In Shape

We all know exercise is work but you cannot improve your fitness if you do not get moving. For some people getting up off the couch is a motivation issue and for others it can be a mobility problem. There are many ways you can be active without traditional weight lifting.

Exercise comes in many forms. Movement and consistency are the two biggest factors to help get you in shape. According to personal trainer, Michael Bennett, “The main reason people fail when they start exercise is that they do something that they are told is good for them, rather than something they can sustain and build upon.”

He suggests that you can try Pole Fitness classes, Trampolining, Ballet, Skipping and even Drumming as alternative forms of working out. Of course you can always stick to more traditional styles such as Pilates, HIIT and even Yoga if you are looking for strength and flexibility training.

According to HealthGuide.Org, for some people mobility might be the cause more than being bored of the same old workout routines. For those of whom have trouble moving around you can try swimming, water aerobics or even aqua jogging. These activities are great for the cardiovascular system and since the water helps support your body it can elevate that discomfort one feels when working out. Even if you are in a wheelchair many pools have lifts that can help one get in and out of the pool with ease.

Strength training can help increase not only muscle & bone mass but improve balance as well. You can try using resistance bands or even light hand weights to help train your body. Flexibility exercises are also just as important since they can enhance your range of motion and reduce pain and stiffness.

Studies show that working out can help with weight but can also with injuries, it can boost your mood and increase your self-esteem. As a dance teacher I think exercise is the best way to help improve your overall well being.
