Grandpa Rescues 5-Year-Old Dragged Into Pool By Python

A grandfather in Australia rescues his five-year-old grandson from his pool after the boy was attacked by a python. Last week, five-year-old Beau Blake was playing at his grandfather’s pool in Byron Bay, New South Wales, when a ten-foot python latched onto the boy’s ankle and quickly wrapped around his leg. The two fell into the pool and sank to the bottom.

Beau’s father, Ben Blake, and grandpa, Alan Blake, saw the incident and rushed to help. The 76-year-old grandad jumped into the pool and grabbed the boy and handed him up to the boy’s father. Ben was able to separate the snake from his son after a few seconds. "I just grabbed it as close as I could to the head, squeezed and pulled," Ben says.

They took Beau to a nearby hospital to have his wound cleaned and the boy checked out okay and calmed down quite a bit once it was clear that the snake wasn’t venomous. Ben released the snake after the incident, but it didn’t immediately leave the area like they thought it would. "He went back to the scene of the crime, the naughty thing," Ben jokes. He says they’ve always checked the pool area for spiders, but now they’ll have to add snakes to the list of potential hazards. He’s glad he and his dad were right there when the incident happened and hates to think what might have been if they weren’t.
