Stefanski Named 2020 NFL Coach Of The Year Following Historic Browns Season

The Professional Football Writers of America and Sporting News are hailing Kevin Stefanski as the 2020 NFL Coach of the Year.

The recognition comes after a historic season for the Cleveland Browns.

In his first year as head coach, Stefanski ended up with an 11-5 record in the regular season, the best record since the 1994 season, according to the Cleveland Browns.

This marks the first time the Browns head coach has received the honor from the Professional Football Writers of America since Marty Schottenheimer won AFC Coach of the Year in 1986, and the fist time since Paul Brown won the Sporting News award in 1953, according to the Browns.

Cleveland was also the only team to go to the playoffs with a first-year head coach.

Not only did the Browns make it to the playoffs for the first time in nearly two decades, the team celebrated a 48-37 victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers on January 10. That marked the first playoff win for the Browns since the 1994 season.

The Browns lost to the Kansas City Chiefs on January 17.

"Looking back on the season, as we all do when the finality of this thing and it is over, I think we definitely achieved a lot," Stefanski said Monday (January 18). "We did some things we set out to do, but ultimately, we came up short and there is a very real sense of disappointment there among our players and coaches right now. We can definitely look back and see some things that we accomplished and be proud of that."
