A man who spent about three hours lurking outside a Salinas, California home early Saturday was caught on camera licking a doorbell in the Rossi Rico neighborhood, police said.
According to KION-TV, a 33-year-old man identified as Roberto Arroyo appeared to relieve himself outside the home and stole an extension cord from the front yard in addition to giving the doorbell a taste.
The homeowners, Dave and Sylvia Dungan, weren't home when the doorbell licker came calling, but their children were inside.
Sylvia Dungan told the station that an alert on her phone let her know about movement outside their home early Saturday.
"I thought, ‘Boy! There’s a lot of traffic,’" Dungan told the TV station. "I started reviewing the videos, (and said to myself) ‘Well, who the heck is this?’"
The homeowners called police, who were able to quickly identify Arroyo.
The video, while creepy, is also comical to the Dungans.
'You kind of laugh about it afterwards because technically he didn’t do anything,' Dungan said. 'This just kind of reinforces how important it is to have security within your home.'
Dungan said the family made sure to wipe down the doors following the incident.
Police are still on the lookout for Arroyo, who could face charges of petty theft and prowling.
