FDA Issues Warning About Gastric Balloons Following Five Deaths

The FDA is issuing an alert about potentially deadly consequences tied to gastric balloons.  It says at least five people have died after undergoing weight loss surgery involving the devices.   It's unclear whether it was the implant surgery or the balloons that caused those deaths.

Two different devices were involved, including one manufactured by ReShape and another by Apollo Endo-Surgery.  The FDA is urging doctors to monitor patients who've received gastric balloons.
