(Cleveland) The Wall Street Journal is reporting that The White House is considering nomination of Cleveland Clinic President and CEO Toby Cosgrove as secreatery of the Department of Veterans affairs. The post became vacant on Friday after the resignation of Eric Shin-seki.

 

Cosgrove joined Cleveland Clinic in 1975 as a heart surgeon and eventually became the department of cardiothoracic surgery chair. He was named CEO in 2003 as a response to him considering leaving the medical system.

 

Cosgrove is a veteran, serving as a surgeon in the Air Force during Vietnam. His awards include the Bronze Star and Republic of Vietnam Commendation Medal.
