(Port Clinton) It's a tradition that brings thousands of tourists to New Years Eve in Port Clinton every year, the annual Walleye Drop. The 200 pound, 20 foot tall fiberglass walleye named Wally has been used to bring in the New Year in Port Clinton for the past 17 years, and is likely to continue for a long time.
Don Clemons heads the Walleye Drop committee and says festivities surrounding the Walleye Drop will be taking place all day Tuesday including a Junior Walleye Drop party for children from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at the Knights of Columbus, and a teen party will take place from 6:00pm until 8:00pm with a laser light show, fog, confetti and dance contests.
The big party will start at around 10:00 at night. 5000 people are expected to line up on Madison Street with vendors selling food, drink, and souvenier. Wally the Walleye Mascot will also be on hand, as well as a special guest appearance by Spike Walleye, the mascot from the Toledo Walleye hockey team.
Clemons says you can watch videos of the Walleye Drop on youtube.com, and you could watch streaming video of the drop beginning at 10:00pm on Tuesday. You can find a link on the Port Clinton Chamber of Commerce website. Get breaking news sent to your mobile phone.Text "news" to 21095.
