(Westlake) – They got him!

Westlake Police say Brian Adkison was observed bicycling on Detroit Rd. near Cahoon Road by a citizen Wednesday.  Adkison ducked into woods near Cahoon Rd. and Bryandale Dr.

Officers from Avon, Bay Village, Fairview Park, North Olmsted, and Rocky River set up a perimeter in the area bounded by I-90, the railroad tracks, Cahoon Rd., and Ranney Pkwy.

At 1:25PM, Adkison was seen inside the Huntington Woods nursing home on Westchester Pkwy. by staff. He was arrested there by a Westlake  patrolman after a brief struggle.

No local charges have been filed at this time; they are being considered.

At 4:29AM Tuesday, a Westlake Police officer tried to question a male sleeping in a pickup truck at the Hampton Inn on Detroit Road. The male took off westbound on Detroit Road. into Avon near Avon Commons, where Westlake PD called off the pursuit.

At 4:44AM, North Ridgeville Police reported chasing the same vehicle eastbound on Center Ridge Road and that one of the truck’s tires had been deflated by their stop-sticks. The vehicle then became disabled on Center Ridge east of Dover Center Road in Westlake and the driver ran off.

North Olmsted Police, Rocky River Police and the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office K9 were called in to help search for the unknown suspect. The Pennsylvania plate on the truck was found to have been stolen in South Strabane Township, PA. The truck itself was stolen from Weirton, WV.

At 9:56AM, the search of the area for the suspect was called off.

The suspect driver was then identified through evidence in the truck as 23-year-old Brian James Adkison of Columbia, Missouri.

He is an August 10 escapee from the Caldwell County Detention Center in Kingston, Missouri where he faces kidnapping, domestic violence, and violating a temporary protection order charges.

Adkison is also wanted in Boone County, Missouri, for rape and burglary charges.

John Tretbar is a reporter with Q Country 92.7 and K Joe 105.5 in St. Joseph, Missouri which is about 10 miles from Kingston. He says he's been busy pursuing Adkinson since he escaped through a ceiling tile in his jail cell.

Tretbar was surprised to see the fugitive made it to Northeast Ohio, possibly on his way to Canada. Tretbar has the story of Adkinson's background and escape from the Missouri perspective.
