(Columbus) Opponents of a state law that effectively bans storefront sweepstakes parlors are nearing an extended signature deadline to place a repeal request on the November 2014 ballot.

The Committee to Protect Ohio Jobs has until Thursday to submit roughly 71,000 additional valid signatures to Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted (HYOO'-sted) after falling short last month.

Spokesman Matt Dole says the committee dispatched hundreds of signature-gatherers to take advantage of the extra 10 days.

If enough signatures are gathered, enforcement of the law would be suspended until next November's vote. Otherwise, the ban moves forward.

Patrons buy cards for phone and Internet time at the so-called Internet cafes with chances to play slots-like computer games for cash prizes.
