(Cleveland) - A former minister is going to prison for two years. Andre Matthews was sentenced today after being convicted of stealing $170,000 from St. Helena Catholic Church.

Investigators say the ex-reverend stole funds from bingo games held at the church. The 54 year old Matthews is also suspected to stealing $100,000 from a church member.

Prosecutors contend Matthews used some to the money to buy cars, pay bills, and to pay for a relative's college tuition.

Matthews asked the court for leniency and explained that he has kidney disease. He also apologized to parishioners and admitted what he did was wrong.
