Cleveland in search of new fire chief

Cleveland in search of new fire chief

(Cleveland) - There will soon be a changing of the guard atop the Cleveland Fire Department.  Chief Daryl McGinnis is retiring effective Friday.

McGinnis has been doing non-supervisory, administerial work since Aug 1 since it was learned he failed to meet the forty hour requirement for his EMT recertification.

McGinnis attained just twenty-two hours of the necessary work toward that recertification.

He was also reprimanded in July for a June incident where he threatened to stab a firefighter in the neck for not wearing his fatigue shirt on duty which is a dress code violation.

McGinnis served the Cleveland Fire Department for 27 years.

Assistant Fire Chief Pat Kelly will take over on an interim basis while the search for a new chief is conducted.
