(Cleveland) - Today is "Ride Free on RTA" day....and it's all compliments of the Cleveland Foundation.

RTA spokeswoman Mary Shaffer says the foundation is celebrating its 100th anniversary and decided to give Clevelanders a gift, after getting so many gifts from the community over the years.

Ride Free on RTA started at midnight and continues until 11:59pm this (Thursday) evening.

Shaffer tells Newsradio WTAM 1100, all fare boxes are bagged with signs that read, "Thank you, Cleveland, for your support. Celebrating 100 years of turning passion into purpose."

Shaffer says they are urging Greater Clevelanders who have not been riding RTA buses and Rapids to try them today.

She hopes new riders will be impressed enough to make public transit part of their daily commute.
