Plan to redo Cleveland's Public Square

Plan to redo Cleveland's Public Square
Posted April 11th, 2013 @ 6:51am

(Cleveland) - Improvements to the Square would cost an estimated $40-million. The proposal includes a food pavilion, a picnic hill, a speaker's terrace for performances, a skating rink and a central plaza where kids could play in a specially designed fountain.

The city would have to secure funding for the project, and traffic studies would need to be conducted, because the current plan closes Superior Avenue to all traffic except buses, and involves closing off the section of Ontario Street that runs through Public Square.

The plan was designed by nationally recognized landscape architect James Corner. The mayor's office is hoping to conduct groundbreaking in spring 2015.
